_71 Testing the Water After Winter

Route map here

My girlfriend was visiting for the weekend and after she left I was sitting a bit grumpy in my house and realised it was really sunny and the sun was still out in the late afternoon and that I still had a few hours of light. I had been for a cycle with her on the roads the day before and noticed some trails looked kind of rideable so thought I would go and check it out to see what I could ride.

The way up proved to be almost impossible to ride with either ice or deep snow stopping efforts to ride to the top. The way down however I realised I had my tyre pressures quite high so I let them down as much as I dared (to about 15-20psi) and then it worked!!!

I love riding on the snow!!! it provides so much excitement as there is a lot of grip but then also there isn’t, you can get pretty wild and loose sliding about. Considering I had not ridden my bike in about 6 weeks I quite enjoyed it!

Rather nice colours on the clouds as the sun sets

And in the other direction the sun setting over the horizon, reflecting on the frozen lake

Under the trees the ground was clear but as soon as you came into something slightly more open there was quite a lot of snow

Still plenty of snow about but with enough of an incline it was definitely possible to get some momentum going
