_64 Jonny’s first ride back, Swinley Forest

14/12/14

Back in May Jonny broke his arm in two places and his collarbone as a result of a crash on a trip to Germany, since then there has been many months of recovery including a long and very slow healing of his arm break and just when everything was looking good again he managed to break his collar bone a second time during a minor crash on his commute to work in London. Not being able to ride your bike when you enjoy it as much as he does does drive you mad slightly and sure enough he was pretty frustrated at times, as active person would be, not being able to do anything. I remember saying to him when he was feeling particularly shit after breaking his collar bone the second time that I would make sure I was there for his first ride back when he was allowed to ride a bike again and sure enough I was.

Not long after I moved back to London over winter from Norway Jonny surprised me with a lets go for a ride this weekend, apparently the doctor had said it was OK to ride and he had been riding the road bike a while so thought it was safe to give the mountain bike a go.

We decided on somewhere fairly easy going and took the train along to Swinley for a loop of the red route, in the end Jonny seemed to be in better shape than me and was riding a lot faster than I expected for having been off the bike for such a long time.

The sun was out all day and Brendon Fairclough even made an appearance for his return!

Big panorama to see the trail doubling back on itself several time as it works its way through the forest
Still seemed to have more energy than me going up the hills despite not having ridden for so long!
